We are in the middle of 2020 and we still have so many festivals, events, and grand gatherings to look forward to. We’ve always wanted to answer the question “what is the greatest outdoor festival here in Australia?”
However, we can’t come up with an answer on our own. That is why we asked 3,000 of our readers to give us a hand. We asked all of them what they think is the greatest outdoor festival here in Australia?
Here are the most common answers we got from them.
Sydney Hobart Yacht Race
Without a doubt one of the most anticipated every year. The Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is more than just a racing event. It is a grand festival that gathers regatta and boat enthusiasts from all over the globewho compete against each other.
The Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is mostly about the race but it is also about people gathering together to share their love for boats as well as eat good food, enjoy fine wine, marvel on live performances, and so much more.
This year, Australia is celebrating the 76th year of the great race and still counting by the way. Most people who answered with this said that the great race throughout the years became a family tradition for millions of Australians across the globe.
We didn’t expect this one to be part of the list, to be honest with all of you, but here it is. If you haven’t heard of the Strawberry Fields before then you’re probably more than 30 years old as its main target audience are millennials.
Strawberry Fields that takes place every November at Tocumwal, New South Wales. The Strawberry Fields is all about art, music, and basically anything creative. Way out from the cityscape, an empty field is turn into like an artist dreamland with pop-up pirate ships, castles, and really anything they can imagine.
People pull up on caravans and they stay at the venue for the entire festival. There is always something to do at this festival. Attend creative workshops, painting exhibits, experimental sounds, décor displays, and meet up-and-coming local artists.
On the first day, when you see the caravans or RVs pull up, that means the festival has already started. We highly encourage you to experience this festival at least once in your life. Just because most attendees are millennials does not mean it is only for them. There is no age limit here so even if you are in your 50s or even 60s, go for it.
Melbourne Cup is not just a festival if you think about it. Pretty sure everyone reading this is familiar with this event. Melbourne Cup is the annual thoroughbred race. This race is said to be the “race that stops the nation” which is exactly true.
Aussies from all over the country and the globe take time to witness the race mostly live via the internet or television. The Melbourne Cup has been going on since 1861 and will continue to do so for many years to come.
